Feb. 26, 2024: Robert F. Dobbin (Bob) passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 23rd at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 92 years old and resided most of his life in Bronxville, New York.

Bob was born in the Bronx on September 6, 1931 to James J.  and Mary Cusker Dobbin the third of 4 children. He was educated at Mount St. Michael Academy. He attended Fordham University the first in his family to attend college and then went on to Fordham Law School. Bob served proudly as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in June 1955. He began his NYC law career as a corporate litigating attorney at Davis Polk Wardwell before practicing many years at Shearman and Sterling, where he eventually retired as a senior partner.

After retirement, he remained engaged and active, serving for six years as a trustee of the Bronxville Board of Education, where he was a strong advocate for the Teacher's Association. Bob also loved to travel with family and friends and was able to explore the world visiting China, India, Scandinavia, Russia, Europe and the National Parks. He was the President of Siwanoy Country Club, a founding member of the Geezer's Bridge Club in Bronxville, an avid reader, and book club member. He never missed a day reading the New York Times.

Bob was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, and sailing. He also had a lifelong passion for both the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants. Bob's Catholic faith was a guiding light for him all is life. He was a quiet and generous supporter of those less fortunate. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville where he was a Eucharistic minister and lectern.

Bob is survived by his daughters Kathleen Dobbin (Scott Parmelee), Sarah (Jim) Footh, and Courtney (Chris) Robin, his sister Mary Anne Lenox, sister-in-law Maureen Dobbin and 8 grandchildren (Katie, Will, and James Parmelee; Peter and Julia Footh; Aidan, Kyle, and Elle Robin). He is also survived by his stepchildren Madeline (Kirk) Saville, Rose (Jim) Wylie, Anne Hardart (Tom Newman), Tom Hardart (Virginia Shore), Paul Hardart, Marcy Hardart (Matt Wickline), and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years Jean Harrington Dobbin, his two sons, Robert F. Dobbin Jr. and William H.D. Dobbin, his second wife of 25 years Rosemary Hardart Dobbin, and his two brothers, William and James Dobbin.

Bob’s generous and welcoming personality and hearty laugh will be in our hearts forever.
