Nov. 2, 2016:  Native Bronxville resident James Edward Scott, “Jim,” “Jimmy” died September 29 in Chicago, following a brief illness. Jim was 63. Jim is survived by his bride of 28 years, Sheri, his children, Alex and Maura, his four brothers, John “Scotty” Bill (Katie), Stuart (Teresa), and Tom, and three sisters, Katie, Anne, and Mary, and many nieces, nephews, grand nephews, and a grandniece, cousins, and countless friends.

Jim was the second of eight children born to John and Joan Scott. John died in 2001 and Joan died in 2014. Jim was born in Tarrytown and then, with his parents and two brothers, moved to Bronxville in 1954, where the family resided until 2014. He and his growing number of brothers and sisters all went to St. Joseph’s School. Jim continued on to Fordham Preparatory School and then to Stonehill College. Since high school, Jim visited the Scott family home in Bronxville often, enjoying family and his many friends.

After living in Boston and San Francisco, Jim settled in Chicago, following in his father’s footsteps in a career in the bottled water industry, first with Mountain Valley Water and then with regional water companies. To the delight of everyone, especially Jimmy, he met and married the former Sheri Meserow in September, 1988. Together, they shared a very kind and generous spirit for each other and all their family and friends. Their son, Alex, was born in 1990 and daughter, Maura, was born in 1994.

Besides his incredible devotion to his family, Jim was dedicated to the family’s longtime summer home, “Rosy Glow,” on Lake Michigan in South Haven, Michigan, spending most summer weekends enjoying the beach days and sunsets with his many siblings, their families, and many beloved cousins. He also loved going on golf outings with his son, brothers, cousins, and friends.

Jim was committed to maintenance and improvement projects for the family’s home. A sports lover, Jim was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees, but he and his family, especially Alex, also grew to love Chicago sports teams, including the Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs. Jim and Sheri recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with a trip to Ireland. Jim returned to Ireland again last year to visit his daughter, Maura, who was studying in Dublin for a semester.

Jim’s great extended family and many lifelong friends joined for a celebration of Jim’s life near Chicago on October 2. There, they remembered Jim’s never-ending kindness, his propensity for always thinking of others before himself, his ever-present smile, and his outward love for his family and friends. His immediate family and many cousins also gathered in South Haven in late October for another celebration. Although he will be missed dearly, all who knew Jim have lives enriched with their memories.
