Mar. 8, 2017: Marianna Perry Brittis, beloved mother of Sarajane Brittis, PhD, and Perry Brittis, MD, PhD, and loving sister of Robert, John, and Katherine Perry of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2017, one day before her 87th birthday.
She was gifted with a heightened aesthetic and artistic sensibility that shaped her work and interests throughout her life, particularly her passion for the accurate preservation of historic homes.
She received her BA degree from George Washington University, majoring in art history. Later, she served as vice president of the Perry-Gething Foundation, which is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Victorian and early American homes. She was also active in many community organizations.
She was a devoted wife for over 60 years to her husband, Dr. Anthony L. Brittis, a retired US Army colonel, who practiced neurosurgery in Bronxville, Yonkers, and the New York Metropolitan area. He predeceased her in 2015.
They traveled widely together, including to the Middle East and China, where she assisted him on his neurosurgical diplomatic missions.
She was deeply prayerful, and her unwavering faith sustained her and inspired others. She will be remembered for her dignity, timeless elegance, inner strength, sensitivity, and grace. She leaves behind a legacy of love.
A memorial mass honoring her life will be held at St. Joseph’s Church at a later date.
