Dec. 4, 2019:  Beverly Shilhan Deichert of East Hampton, NY and Bronxville, NY died unexpectedly on November 19th, 2019.

Beverly was born November 25th, 1938, in Manhattan, NY to Edward Shilhan and Julia Sucsy. Beverly (known as Bev to her family and friends) grew up in Corona Queens with her parents and sisters, Dorothy and Sharon. She spent entire summers with her extended family camping at Hither Hills State Park in Montauk, NY.

Beverly graduated from Pace University with a Bachelors of Business Administration. She worked at the corporate office of North American Philips in Manhattan as an executive assistant, where she met and married her late husband, Robert “Bob” Deichert.

After leaving Philips in 1974 to raise her son Robert Deichert Jr., Bev became an active member of the Bronxville community; She served as chairperson of Eliza Frost Child Center, as a board member of the League of Women Voters, and assisted in the Yonkers Family Court. Bev spent her summers in East Hampton close to her younger sister Sharon, high school friend Nora Callahan, and friend Kathy Ianuzzi, who all had summer homes within a block of her home.

After Bev and Bob retired to East Hampton in 1994, she became active in the Ladies Village Improvement Society (LVIS), where she helped raise funds for scholarships by volunteering at the thrift store as well as the annual fair. She also volunteered at the Retreat in East Hampton as well as at St. Luke’s.

In 2018, her husband Bob passed away from a long illness, and Bev re-immersed herself in the Bronxville community. She traveled to the Holy Land with Christ Church and took an interest in the Middle East peace process. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and engaging them in the arts and museums in Manhattan. Bev was looking forward to volunteering for the 2020 election.

Beverly is survived by her husband Bob’s daughter Wendy Deichert Tyra, her son Robert William Deichert Jr., and by her six grandchildren, who brought her immense pride.

The Deichert family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of support and kind words. A memorial service will be held on December 7th at 2 pm at Christ Church in Bronxville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Ladies Village Improvement Society Scholarship Fund, 95 Main St, East Hampton NY 11937.
