Aug. 24, 2016:  Jason Alberghine, a longtime resident of Bronxville, died suddenly on Saturday, July 30, 2016. He died of cardiac arrest while moving heavy boxes into his family's new apartment. A memorial service for family and friends was held at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale on August 6, 2016.

He leaves behind his wife, Lisa, to whom he was married 22 years, and their four children, Briana, Ryan, Dylan, and Caleigh.

Jason was the son of Fran and Al Alberghine and brother of Vicki Gergely (Mark) and Robert Alberghine. He was brother-in-law to Lisa's sister, Amy Stollerman (Gregory Hayden). He was a fun and loving uncle to his seven nieces and nephews: Alexis, Joshua, and Bryce Gergely; Adriana and Jayden Alberghine; and Keira and Brett Hayden.

Jason was born on November 2, 1969. He attended Sachem public schools and Sachem North High School, from which he graduated in 1987. He attended SUNY-Oneonta and graduated in 1991 with a degree in business economics.

Jason was a quiet, humble man who loved his family. He took tremendous pride in the accomplishments of his children, and he was a constant presence on the sidelines of their athletic events. He was a source of great encouragement to them.

Lacrosse was a big part of Jason's life, and he was happiest when he had a lacrosse stick in his hand. He was an outstanding long-stick midfielder at Sachem High School and was a varsity player and captain at SUNY-Oneonta.

Jason was an early coach and supporter of the Bronxville Youth Lacrosse Association (BYLA) and was active in the program for many years. His involvement in the program began as a coach to his daughter Briana's team and continued as his sons, Ryan and Dylan, and daughter, Caleigh, moved through the program. As a coach, Jason brought out the best in his players. He stressed the importance of hard work and helped them develop their full potential. Above all, he taught them to have fun playing the sport he loved. He truly made a difference in the lives of Bronxville's children and he will be missed by many who knew him well.

Tim Horgan, boys' varsity lacrosse coach at Bronxville High School, had this to say about some of the boys whom Jason coached early on:  "The current group of Bronxville juniors is not only one of the most talented groups to have come through the program, but also one of the hardest working group of boys that I have ever coached. Their work ethic and knowledge of the game is due in no small part to Coach Alberghine's dedication to ensuring that they played the game correctly and with maximum effort every time they stepped onto the field."

Guy Corcoran, chairman emeritus of BYLA, said, "Jason's deep knowledge of the game, his enormous time commitment, and obvious passion for lacrosse took our program to a level it otherwise would have not achieved. The young girls coached by Jason grew into Bronxville High School's first great team of girls' lacrosse players. These girls produced our first Section 1 Championship, made a first run to the New York State semifinals, and gave us some of our earliest Division 1 recruits. None of that would have happened without Jason Alberghine."

Jason's untimely death left a big void in his family. Over the past few weeks, the Bronxville community has been extremely generous in its emotional and financial support. The Alberghine family wishes to thank their friends and neighbors for their kindness, compassion, and many donations.
