Doris Russ Blair, Active Bronxville Community Volunteer, Dies December 27, 2016, at 89; Memorial Service at Reformed Church on January 28

Jan. 11, 2017: Doris Russ Blair, devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on December 27, 2016. She was 89.
Doris remained active until her final days, visiting with family and friends and playing bridge on a weekly basis. Affectionally known to her grandchildren as the Great Grammu, she was born and raised in Brooklyn. She was a 1945 graduate of Erasmus Hall High School.
Married to Wesley K. Blair, Jr. for 61 years until his death in 2010, Doris raised four children and influenced and mentored numerous others. She was an active community volunteer, investing countless hours in support of her children and their friends in the Bronxville school system, The Reformed Church of Bronxville, and the Bronxville Girl Scouts.
Doris was a past member of the Greater Consistory at The Reformed Church, the Lawrence Hospital board, and her co-op association board. In addition, she was a member of Christ Church of Longboat Key, where she participated in services and activities every winter.
As a longtime member of the Bronxville Field Club, where she frequently dined with friends, Doris was a regular on the tennis and paddle courts in her prime.
Doris was a successful realtor, first with the Joan Spencer organization and then with Houlihan Lawrence. She sold her last properties in 2015 at the age of 88.
Doris is survived by her four children and their spouses, Wesley III and Rebecca Blair, David Blair and Marianne Bokan-Blair, Robert and Carol Blair, and Nancy (née Blair) and David Marks; ten grandchildren, Joshua, Alexandra, Sarajane, Rachel, Jamie, Maggie, Hannah, Tim, Sydney, and Jeffrey; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Jordan; a nephew, John Ransom; two nieces, Chris Doane and Robin Abby; and a grand-nephew, Jack Ransom.
A memorial service for Doris will be held at The Reformed Church of Bronxville at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 28.
Doris asked that donations be given in lieu of flowers to the Gardner Marks Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization formed to honor the memory of her late grandson Gardner with the mission of supporting families with children battling leukemia.
