By Kathleen Suss, Executive Director, Concordia Conservatory

Oct. 30, 2019:  Concordia Conservatory will present the Emerson String Quartet as part of the Hoch Chamber Music Series' 17th season-opening concert on November 2, at 7 pm. The program includes Beethoven's String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95 "Seriosos"; Mendelssohn-Hensel's String Quartet in E-flat Major and Dvorak's String Quartet in E Flat Major, Op. 51.

The Emerson String Quartet stands apart in the history of string quartets with over four decades of an unparalleled list of achievements: more than thirty acclaimed recordings, nine Grammys® (including two for Best Classical Album), three Gramophone Awards, the Avery Fisher Prize, Musical America's "Ensemble of the Year", and collaborations with many of the greatest artists of our time. With a repertoire that spans three centuries of chamber music, the Emerson String Quartet also looks towards the future by collaborating with today's most esteemed composers and premiering new works. They are committed to keeping the art form of the string quartet alive and more relevant than ever. The quartet members are Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer, violins; Lawrence Dutton, viola; and Paul Watkins, cello.

The Quartet's 2019-20 season began with a seven-city tour in Australia, reflecting all aspects of the Emerson's venerable artistry with high-profile projects, collaborations, and tours. North American highlights of the season include the Emerson's three-concert series at Lincoln Center's Great Performers Series pairing Beethoven's "Razumovsky" Quartets with the complete Bartók cycle, its 41st series at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, and appearances at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, Friends of Chamber Music in Vancouver, Wharton Center for Performing Arts, South Mountain Concerts, Friends of Music Concerts, Wooster Chamber Music, Chamber Music Cincinnati and Chamber Music Louisville. Overseas, the Emerson Quartet performs the complete Beethoven Cycle at the Seoul International Music Festival and embarks on three European tours throughout the season in Serbia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Poland, and Spain.

Lawrence Dutton has served as the Artistic Director of the Hoch Chamber Music Series for 17 years, transforming the series into a world-class chamber music series with an eclectic mix of repertoire and artists.

There will be a pre-concert lecture, More Than Music, at 6 pm in Stein Hall before the concert with Conservatory faculty presenting a detailed study of the chamber music featured in the concert.

Tickets for the concert are $40 adult and $20 senior/child. Tickets for the pre-concert lecture are $18.

Bronxville Public Library
Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
