April 20, 2022: Daniel Stuart MacDonald Jr. passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, peacefully. He was 86.
Dan, or “Big Mac” as he liked to be referred to, was born on April 29, 1935, in San Francisco, CA. He was student body President of Sacred Heart High School and graduated in 1953. After high school, attracted to the priesthood, Dan went on to study at a seminary in Menlo Park, California, and then studied at Maryknoll Seminary in New York. He was ordained a Maryknoll Priest in 1963. He was then stationed in Tokyo, Japan, for the better part of the next eight years, working as International Liaison for the Japan Junior Chamber of Commerce. In this capacity, he traveled extensively through America, Asia, and Europe. After leaving Maryknoll, Dan stayed faithful to his Catholic foundation and was lucky enough to meet and marry his love, Kathleen Vouté, in May 1972.
Dan’s love of finance and helping people helped shape his career as Senior Vice President and National Sales Manager for Oppenheimer, to President of NSR Distributors, to opening his own financial services fund, MDIC in Bronxville, which specialized in mutual funds. This gave Dan the independence to run his own firm, spend time with his family and be an active member of his community. Dan held an MBA in Business Administration, was a Certified Financial Planner, a Certified Estate Planner, and held licenses in real estate, insurance, and general securities. Big Mac was President of the Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe in 1991 and President of the Bronxville Rotary Club in 1998. He might be the most well-known for his whistle, which put a smile on thousands of faces.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Kathleen, his children, Daniel (Siobhan) MacDonald, Christy (Tim) Pandekakes, his five grandchildren, Timmy, Hailey, Lia, KC, and Dylan, his sisters Dolores Bagshaw and Patricia MacDonald, his brother Noel MacDonald as well as many loving, nieces, nephews and extended family. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Rose, and father, Daniel, as well as his brother Kenneth.
Dan was so full of life, loved playing tennis and watching sports, especially watching his children and grandchildren compete through the years. He also loved his beloved 49ers and NY Yankees. He jumped at every opportunity to lend a hand, volunteer, and have meaningful conversations with anyone. He was a friend to everyone.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Fred H. McGrath & Son, funeral home, 20 Cedar St, Bronxville, NY 10708. Funeral services for Dan will be at St. Joseph’s Church 15 Cedar St, Bronxville, NY 10708 on Thursday April 21 at 9:45am. Dan will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Hawthorne NY.
