Oct. 10, 2018:  This fall, the Bronxville Adult School is bringing a sensational assortment of lectures and music appreciation workshops right to your backyard.

On October 16, Sarah Lawrence College's Professor Jerrilyn Dodds will return with another one of her fascinating lectures titled “Francisco Goya: The Third of May 1808.” It will be followed by a compelling exploration of the intersection of dance and politics by Helen Coope in a lecture of the same name on October 25 and “Realism and Spiritualism in Russian Art” by Sedar Arat on November 6.

Opera lovers or wannabes will want to join Regina Zona for The Joy of Opera: The Met Live in HD series, which provides an informative and entertaining overview about the operas so that you will be prepared to enjoy The Met Live in HD performances. Samson et Dalila (Saint-Saëns) will be discussed on October 15, La Fanciulla del West (Puccini) on October 22, and Marnie (Muhly) on November 5.

On December 4, professionally trained chef, food historian, and opera aficionado Carl Raymond will present “Divas & Dinner: Dining with the Courtesans--A Culinary Look at the Real La Traviata.” Join him for this journey through one of the world’s most popular operas with an eye toward how food plays a role in the drama both on and off stage.

In addition, the ever-popular composer and pianist Cristiana Pegoraro is returning to the Bronxville Adult School on October 29 with “The Greatest Composers of Vienna and Paris in the Romantic Era,” a musical exploration of the most intriguing century of music and musicians of all time.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
