Concordia’s Jacobson Global Lecture Series Opens November 1 with Beyond Business as Usual: A New Vision for the Global Economy

Oct. 24, 2018: Are economic systems focused exclusively on financial profit ultimately incompatible with human survival? At Concordia College’s November 1 Jacobson Global Lecture, Rajiv Joshi will make the case that in a time of social and planetary crisis, business must act as a force for good, helping humanity to fulfill its role to look after each other and the planet.
Rajiv Joshi is managing director of The B Team, a global collective of courageous leaders transforming business for a better world. He is working with some of the world’s most influential CEOs and civil society leaders to help redefine the role of business in tackling inequality, corruption, climate change, and other barriers to sustainable development. His Jacobson Global Lecture appearance will continue developing Concordia’s 2018-19 college theme, Borders and Boundaries, exploring the crossing of societal and planetary boundaries and the ways that economic disparity creates virtual borders.
In addition to his work at The B Team, Rajiv has served as a trustee of Oxfam and as executive director and head of programs for the Global Call to Action against Poverty. Rajiv also serves on the board of the Centre for Scottish Public Policy. He previously served as a board member of CIVICUS, a senior advisor to the British Council, and a publicly appointed member of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (Scotland Committee). Rajiv holds a first-class honors degree in economics from the University of Strathclyde and a master’s degree in public policy and administration with a focus on international economic policy from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.
For nearly three decades, the Jacobson Global Lecture Series (renamed in 2004) has brought to Concordia’s campus distinguished speakers from diverse international fields, enlightening students, faculty, and the community at large.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
