Learn About Art, Film, Memoir, Travel, and More at Concordia College Community Events in November

Nov. 7, 2018: With the busy holiday season upon us, Concordia College’s community events offer opportunities to reflect and recharge. All events are open to the public, and most are free of charge.
Sunday, November 4, 3:00 pm, Concordia Conservatory Faculty Concert at OSilas Gallery. On November 4, spend an afternoon listening to music among powerful photographic images. In conjunction with OSilas Gallery’s Our Rights, Our Freedoms, Always exhibition, Concordia Conservatory faculty will explore the relationship between music and humanity in the face of injustice through the works of composers Villa-Lobos, Harrison, and Lauro. Thursday, November 15, 7:30 pm, Photographer John Isaac at OSilas Gallery. Bronxville resident, author, and former United Nations photojournalist John Isaac will discuss his 30-year career traveling the world for the UN at an OSilas Gallery talk: “The Pictures That I Did Not Take.” Tickets are required and are $25 per person ($20 for OSilas Gallery members). Friday, November 16, 7:00 pm, Film Codebreaker at Concordia College. The Sluberski Film Series will present Codebreaker at 7:00 pm in the Sommer Center for Worship and the Performing Arts on the campus of Concordia College. This 2011 drama documentary explores pivotal moments in Alan Turing’s life: his extraordinary accomplishments, persecution by the very country his ideas saved, and tragic death. Interviews with contemporary tech and science experts examine Turing’s continuing impact. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Click here for more information.
Friday, November 30, 7:30 am, HR Director Sandra Marr at Concordia's Business Breakfast Series. Business Breakfast welcomes Sandra Marr from Lone Pine Capital on November 30 in the Pietruski Auditorium on the campus of Concordia College. Breakfast will be available at 7:30 am, and the presentation begins at 8:00 am. The Greenwich, CT, hedge fund’s director of human resources will share an insider’s perspective on today’s hiring landscape. The event is free and open to the public. Click here for more information.
Monday, December 3, 7:30 pm, Author Laura Fahrenthold at Concordia. At Concordia's next Books & Coffee discussion, Laura Fahrenthold, author of the “sarcastically wicked” The Pink Steering Wheel Chronicles, will discuss her fearless memoir of a 31,000-mile road trip to solace and healing. The event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Sommer Center for Worship and the Performing Arts on the campus of Concordia College. The event is free and open to the public. The Bronxville Adult School is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1957 and chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. The School "offers all adults of Bronxville and surrounding communities the opportunity for personal growth through life enhancing skills and provides cultural, intellectual and recreational stimulation at a nominal cost."

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
