April 17, 2024: Looking for ways to participate in 2024’s Earth Day on April 22nd, but don’t know where to start?
We have suggestions! Whether you have one minute or are looking to spend the day enjoying our natural world, there are many choices. Learn, explore, participate, enjoy!
Have one minute?
Follow us on Instagram @bxvgreencommittee to stay up to date on our efforts to implement sustainable programs in our community.
5 minutes?
Join Bronxville’s residential Food Scrap Recycling Program! If you purchase your Food Scrap Recycling Kit during the month of April, a Green Committee volunteer will deliver your kit to your door for FREE that Friday. The Kit includes everything needed for an easy kitchen collection of food scraps and drop off for commercial composting! Learn more about the program and hear from your participating neighbors here! Purchase HERE.
10 minutes?
Call your landscaper and ask them to stop using chemicals on your property and to plant natives this Spring – organic treatments are healthier for your lawn AND your family and landscapers can easily switch to these treatments if you ask them. Learn more about Healthy Yards from one of our favorite organizations in Bedford HERE.
Already gone organic? The Green Committee will deliver a free Healthy Yards sign to display on your property! Email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
15 minutes?
Download ConEd’s Grid Rewards App and start earning money by reducing energy use during peak spring and summer months. The app will alert you when to reduce energy to earn savings and reduce pollution caused when backup “peaker” plants are turned on during times of high energy demand.
An hour?
Get a FREE Home Energy Consultation: Our neighbors at Bedford2030 are offering a FREE one-on-one 45 minute energy consultation with an energy coach to discuss your home’s specific needs. Learn how to save money on energy bills, make your home more comfortable and reduce polluting greenhouse gas emissions.
A morning or afternoon?
If you have toddlers, join the Bronxville Sprouts at the Bronxville Giving Garden! On Monday, April 22 join one of two FREE sessions being offered at 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. on the corner of Gramatan Avenue and Pondfield Road. Your children can participate in fun and educational activities while you or their caregivers chat with Green Committee volunteers about their programs.
For older kids and adults, join the Scout Field clean up on Monday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Bronxville Green Committee is partnering with the Westchester Parks Foundation to lead volunteers to pick up litter and remove invasive plants that overwhelm recently planted native species. Meet in the parking lot next to the Boy Scout cabin (off Midland Avenue); bring gloves if you have them; otherwise, all tools will be provided. You must register in advance. See Westchester Parks Foundation’s Pitch in for Parks for more dates and locations if you can’t make this one.
There are many other Earth Month celebrations all around Westchester that offer a morning or afternoon of family fun and education. Check out Sustainable Westchester’s calendar HERE.

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. We work to propose and implement environmentally sustainable programs in our community.
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization under Village government. We work with the Trustees and Village staff on programs that promote clean energy initiatives and sustainable ways of living. Our programs include The Bronxville Giving Garden, a community garden whose produce is donated to local groups; Take Back Day, when we collect items to be recycled; and Pollinator Pathways, which encourages adding native plants to our gardens. We believe everyone can make a difference by adopting simple, sustainable practices in daily life so we can work together to protect what we love -- our families, our homes and our town.
