By the Bronxville Green Committee
April 26, 2023: Friday, April 28th is Arbor Day! Given the enormous value trees add to our community, the advanced age of our tree canopy, and recent tree losses, it’s important that we all work together to ensure their preservation. The best thing we can all do is care for the trees we have and plant new ones, of many native species!
Benefits of Trees:
Trees help fight climate change
Trees reduce flooding
Trees clean our drinking water
Trees remove air pollution and muffle sound
Trees provide privacy and create beautiful spaces
Trees that are native to our area provide food and habitat for local wildlife
Trees increase home values
Trees contribute to our mental and physical well-being
Ways We’re Celebrating & Protecting Our Trees!
Bronxville is a Tree USA City: Earlier this year, Bronxville regained its certification as a Tree City USA, a program created by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor municipalities that support trees through their care and maintenance of trees on public property and with their outreach to residents about the huge benefits trees provide to their community.
Bronxville Public Library: During the month of April, the library has a book display about trees in the foyer opposite the check-out desk. Check out some of the publications here.
Womrath Books: Between Earth Day on April 22 and Arbor Day on April 28, Womrath Books is partnering with the Bronxville Green Committee to promote books about trees! Look for the window display in their Pondfield Road store and for handouts inside highlighting Tree Facts. Please consider shopping local and purchasing a book about trees—for yourself or as a gift, for a kid or an adult.
Arbor Day: The Village will be planting a tree! Join us at 11 a.m. at Kensington and Beechtree Lane to see a new tree go into the ground to replace a magnificent Beech tree that was recently lost to Beech leaf disease, a growing threat.
Reformed Church of Bronxville: Don’t miss new trees being planted on the front lawn of the Reformed Church of Bronxville in May: a Scarlet oak, a Sugar maple, two dogwoods and a redbud. We anticipate that these trees will grace the Four Corners for many years to come.

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization under Village government. We work with the Trustees and Village staff on programs that promote clean energy initiatives and sustainable ways of living. Our programs include The Bronxville Giving Garden, a community garden whose produce is donated to local groups; Take Back Day, when we collect items to be recycled; and Pollinator Pathways, which encourages adding native plants to our gardens. We believe everyone can make a difference by adopting simple, sustainable practices in daily life so we can work together to protect what we love -- our families, our homes and our town.
