Nov. 3, 2021: Have you noticed the new white diagonal strips on Midland Avenue stretching from the school crossing area to the Women's Club?
MyhometownBronxville reached out to Village of Bronxville administrator, Jim Palmer, to ask him about these lines.
According to Palmer, the lines are part of a "traffic calming PILOT project installed to reduce vehicle speed by essentially shrinking the travel lane and further channeling traffic (not unlike the shrubs in the median)." He further said, "these are proven methods of slowing speed and we will measure their effectiveness."
Palmer pointed out that this area of Midland Avenue gets "heavy traffic, including commercial traffic, and because it’s in proximity to the School has significant pedestrian volume."
Finally, Palmer noted that "another possibility is that this striping area could possible be a future bike lane." According to Palmer, the Village is reviewing these considerations "as part of our complete streets initiatives."

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization under Village government. We work with the Trustees and Village staff on programs that promote clean energy initiatives and sustainable ways of living. Our programs include The Bronxville Giving Garden, a community garden whose produce is donated to local groups; Take Back Day, when we collect items to be recycled; and Pollinator Pathways, which encourages adding native plants to our gardens. We believe everyone can make a difference by adopting simple, sustainable practices in daily life so we can work together to protect what we love -- our families, our homes and our town.
