Bronxville Green Committee: Join our Pollinator Pathway Movement!

By Bronxville Green Committee

July 7, 2021: Our pollinator populations are in crisis. Sharp declines in bee, butterfly and other pollinating populations are due to loss of habitat and nutrition from land fragmentation, pesticide use, and climate change.

This is important because pollinators are responsible for the reproduction of 80-95% of plant species on earth and more than 30% of our food. Also, insects are a vital part of our global natural cycles. Scientists tell us that if insects go extinct – and many are currently endangered – then global environmental systems will collapse.

Public parks alone can no longer provide enough support to sustain these environmentally important populations. Fortunately, Pollinator Pathways in communities like Bronxville can provide a solution!

A Pollinator Pathway is a pesticide-free corridor of public and private properties that provide native plant habitat and nutrition for pollinating insects and wildlife. If we begin to manage our own yards organically and with specific native plantings, we can connect our homes with parks and preserves and create crucial corridors for wildlife.

This growing movement is happening in towns all around Westchester, and the Bronxville Green Committee is proud to announce we have started a local Pollinator Pathway program here in Bronxville.

Get Started! As a Bronxville resident, you can make simple changes to your garden to create a beautiful and healthy native plant environment. Check out the following links for tips and resources, so you can get started yourself, or encourage your landscaper to get started for you.

Landscape with Native Plants  Native plant species are best suited for our local sun, soil, and water conditions and can best support our pollinator populations.

Eliminate Pesticides Transition from dangerous toxic contaminates to organic or natural treatments to protect our environment and our families.

Remove Invasive Species Invasive plant, vine, and flower species are non-native to our ecosystem and cause environmental harm by reducing diversity and depriving pollinators of what they need to survive.

We are inviting every Bronxville resident to join! Please contact us with any questions at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and check out our recently planted native gardens in Bacon Woods Park and at the traffic island on Willow Road.

The Bronxville Green Committee, which is part of our local government, is a volunteer organization working to propose and implement environmentally sustainable programs in our community. We believe every resident and family can make a positive impact and we hope to be a helpful resource in the process.

The Bronxville Green Committee

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization under Village government.  We work with the Trustees and Village staff on programs that promote clean energy initiatives and sustainable ways of living. Our programs include The Bronxville Giving Garden, a community garden whose produce is donated to local groups; Take Back Day, when we collect items to be recycled; and Pollinator Pathways, which encourages adding native plants to our gardens. We believe everyone can make a difference by adopting simple, sustainable practices in daily life so we can work together to protect what we love -- our families, our homes and our town.
