June 18, 2025: The Bronxville High School is buzzing with excitement as one of their own, senior Amy Villanueva, has been named as an Academic All-American for lacrosse. In Section 1, there are nine players named Academic All-Americans and nine who are named All-American.

Amy, who has committed to playing Division I lacrosse at Bucknell University, has had a remarkable career. With her skill, leadership, and academic excellence, she is poised to make a significant impact on the collegiate lacrosse scene.

Amy's journey in the world of lacrosse began at the young age of 1st grade in Bronxville’s very own youth lacrosse program (BYLA), and her passion for the game has only grown. Since then, she has shown remarkable dedication to the sport. Throughout her high school years, she has been a standout player for the varsity lacrosse team, securing her spot as a starter in the 8th grade. Her versatility on the field, playing both offense and defense, has made her an invaluable asset to her team.

Amy has had an amazing run with Bronxville girls’ varsity lacrosse. The team competed at states in 2022, 2023, and 2024 (no states in 2021 because of Covid). As a testament to her leadership qualities and dedication to the sport, Amy has been named a team captain for her varsity lacrosse team in her junior and senior years. Her commitment to her craft and her team's success has been unwavering.

Her commitment to excellence has also extended beyond the Bronxville High School lacrosse arena, as she has been an active participant in club lacrosse, competing for Prime Time. Her determination and talent have taken her across the country to face some of the nation's top lacrosse talent. She has won UA150, American Select, IL Women’s lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine accolades.

Amy has also been a 4-year starter and senior captain on the girls’ varsity soccer team. In 2021, the team was the NYS Class B Champion. She was also competed on the varsity track team and holds the school record for the freshman 400m.

A true student-athlete, Amy maintains an unweighted GPA is 4.07, according to her guidance counselor. Her exceptional performance on and off the lacrosse field garnered significant attention from collegiate programs. She received offers from high-academic institutions and top lacrosse programs. After careful consideration, Amy made the exciting decision to commit to play Division I lacrosse at Bucknell University, where she will also continue her academic career in the Freeman College of Management.

"This has been a long journey, and I learned a lot of life’s lessons on the lacrosse field,” said Amy. “Winning the Academic All-American Award was the pinnacle of my high school career. I'm now looking forward to representing Bronxville as a Bucknell Bison and getting on the field to compete early on to help get some Bison wins."

Amy is quick to credit the many coaches who have supported her along the way. She gives credit to Bronxville’s very own Scott Bacigalupo (who coached Amy since 1st grade) and Sharon Robinson have been instrumental in the BYLA and varsity lacrosse programs. She praises club coaches, Jackie Pierce Goldmann and Steph Hopkins Serino, who were also Bronxville’s varsity assistant coaches and part of the fabric of the BYLA program for many years. Under Athletic Director and Coach Joe Haven, Amy and her teammates captured a state title in 2022.

With Coach Gianna Maffei and Coach Marissa Spinazzola currently at the helm, Amy has helped her team through many changes and has embraced different coaching styles. As she leaves Bronxville varsity girls’ lacrosse, she says that she will be rooting for Coach Spinazzola and her team next year.

For aspiring lacrosse players dreaming of following in her footsteps, Amy offers some advice: "Work hard and believe in yourself. Work hard even though no one is watching. Do what you love."

The Bronxville community is thrilled to celebrate Amy’s achievements and looks forward to watching her future unfold. Bucknell University is gaining a remarkable talent and a dedicated student-athlete, and her hometown couldn't be prouder.
