June 4, 2025: At the Section 1 Class C track and field championships held last week in Pawling, the Bronxville boys’ and girls’ track and field teams easily won their team titles while competing against 20 schools from across Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland Counties. The Bronxville teams delivered dominant performances in both track and field events with the boys’ team scoring in 14 events, and the girls’ team scoring in 16.

The boys’ recorded an impressive 165 points overall to capture the Class C title while second-place Irvington scored 83.5. The girls’ team delivered an equally impressive performance outscoring their closest competitor, Rye Neck, by a score of 153.5 to 71.  For high school track and field meets, competitors who place in the top six score for the team with the first-place competitor receiving ten points.

Girls’ Track and Field

Senior Juliet Winiecki scored the highest number of points for the girls’ team, and placed first in the 100m hurdles, the 400m hurdles, and the long jump for the second year in a row. She was also part of the 4x100m relay (Winiecki, Eva Mihova, Elena Tomala-Reidel, and Kara Kochansky) that placed 1st in 51.60.

Mihova scored in three separate events. In addition to being part of the first-place 4x100m relay, she placed first in the pole vault (9-0) and 3rd in the 400m.

The 4x400m relay (Kara Kochansky, Ella McCalla, Mary Donahue, and Maria Overby) placed 2nd in 4:20.32 just 0.16 seconds behind the winning Irvington team.

Fiona Keveney was outstanding in the pentathlon and won the event with a score of 2050. The pentathlon includes the100m hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, and an 800m run.

Sabrina Presant scored in three field events including the shot put (3rd), the discus (4th), and the pole vault (5th).

Boys’ Track and Field

The Bronxville boys’ team also had standout performances in both track and field and placed first or second in 13 of 19 events.

“We had several personal bests from athletes young and old, and we enjoyed a new NY#1 time in the 110m hurdles from Wyatt Gravier who is back and healthy just in time for championship season,” said Coach Brian Halling.

Gravier, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury during the winter season, is the defending Section 1 and New York State Champion in the 110m hurdles. Gravier broke his own record at the Class C Sectional Championship, winning the race in 13.78. His time ranks as the second fastest ever recorded in New York State- just 0.06 seconds shy of the state record, which was set in 2006.

Kieran McBride was the high scorer for the Broncos placing first in three events. He won the 800m in 1:56.53 and was part of the first-place 4x800m relay team along with Will Hogue, Julian Gonzalez, and Caspar Smith. He also won the 3000m steeplechase in 10:09.84, improving on his winning time of  10:23.80 from sectionals last year.

Also placing first for the Broncos were Javier Tomala-Reidel in the 400m, John Sekula in the 400m hurdles, and Zijun Xu in the discus.

The boys’ 4x400m relay, John Sekula, Spencer Martin, Javier Tomala-Reidel, Teo Valdes, also added points for the team by placing first in a time of 3:36.59.

Bronxville has great depth at middle distances. In the 800m race, four Broncos scored for the team including McBride, 1st, Caspar Smith, 3rd, Grant Patterson, 4th, and Liam Greenfield, 6th. In the 1600m, three Broncos scored: Julian Gonzalez, 2nd, Nate Deutsch, 4th, and Matthew Jensen, 5th.

The Broncos are competing this week at State Qualifiers in LaGrangeville. Gravier has already qualified for the State Championship in 110m hurdles, and yesterday at Warwick Fast Times Relays two Bronxville relays also qualified.

“The boys 4x800m relay team of Julian Gonzalez, Kieran McBride, Will Hogue, and Caspar Smith hit the NYS Super Standard and auto-qualified for the State Meet with their time of 7:58.77 - a truly impressive time that breaks the 8:00 barrier that is so elusive,” said Coach Halling. “Our girls 4x400m relay team of Juliet Winiecki, Eva Mihova, Ella McCalla, and Kara Kochansky also auto-qualified by hitting the Super Standard with a time of 4:02.22.”
