BCW Tree House’s Tree Chic 2025: Fashion, Philanthropy, and Healing at Saks Greenwich

By Betsy Putnam

June 18, 2025: On May 20, 2025, Saks Greenwich transformed into a haven of style and support as BCW Tree House hosted its annual “Tree Chic” event. This elegant gathering, benefiting BCW Tree House and sponsored by Saks Fifth Avenue, brought together fashion enthusiasts and community members for an afternoon of champagne, lunch, and the latest spring trends—all in the name of healing and hope.

The highlight of the event was a stunning fashion show featuring celebrity stylist, Lindsey Bernay (@lindseybernaystyles), author of the best-selling book, “You Can’t Leave the House Naked.” Known for her philosophy to “wear what makes you happy,” Bernay curated a dazzling showcase of spring’s freshest looks. In a delightful surprise, she also styled event co-chair, Maureen Stapleton, and new BCW Tree House board member, Laura Frerer-Schmidt, adding a personal touch to the runway spectacle.

May 20 was also the date of the annual Tree House “Pillow Ceremony,” where Tree House children receive pillows printed with photos of their deceased loved ones. The overlapping date of Tree Chic and the Pillow Ceremony was a poignant reminder of the profound impact of funds raised at the event. In the words of MK O’Shaughnessy, Chair of the BCW Tree House board, who attended the Pillow Ceremony:

“The Program Director pointed me out, and several families came over to hug me and thank me, for us. They wanted to hear about the event at Saks. One parent said, ‘This program saved my life.’ A 10-year-old girl told me she’s made her best friends through Tree House, friends who ‘really understand what I’m going through.’ These families come from all over, from the city through Westchester County. This program does something for parents, kids, spouses, that can't be replicated by the best individual therapists. The shared experience is key. It’s not a club anyone would choose to be in, but it’s a lifeline for those who are.”

The Tree House program provides a safe and compassionate space for families navigating grief. Events like Tree Chic not only raise funds but also foster a sense of community, reminding attendees that healing is possible—and that no one has to face loss alone. With Saks Greenwich as the backdrop, Tree Chic 2025 was more than just a fashion event; it was a celebration of resilience, connection, and the transformative power of shared experiences.
