Take Back Day is November 16: Donate, Recycle & Clean House!

Nov. 6, 2024: On Saturday, November 16, 10AM-1PM, "Take Back Day" returns to Bronxville!
Here’s your chance to clean house by donating items for reuse or recycling – and make a positive environmental impact!
By reducing, reusing, and recycling, we can eliminate much of our household solid waste stream and take important steps to ensure the health of our local environment.
In addition to TAKE BACK DAY, the Village of Bronxville has numerous programs that make it easier for residents to participate in this effort. See HERE to learn more!
Take Back Day
Two Drop-Off Sites:
1) Shredding: Elementary School Parking Lot, for drop-off of sensitive documents to be shredded. Line up along Midland Avenue, going south as you would for school drop-off and pick-up.
Up to four file-sized (10”x12”x15”) boxes of personal confidential papers per household. The county requests that you remove all large binder clips and covers. Junk mail and newspapers belong in your recycling bin at home. Keep in mind that once the county’s mobile shredder is full, it won’t be able to accept more items, so plan to arrive early.
2) Other Donations: From Midland Avenue, enter and exit Palumbo Place (behind Village Hall) for drop-off of the following:
-Electronics for safe dismantling and recycling by Westchester County, including desktops, laptops, and tablets; TVs; FAX machines, VCRs, printers, related cords, and small kitchen appliances with electronic components. No batteries of any kind. By New York State law, all electronics must be kept out of the regular waste stream. See our website for Westchester County data security policies. NOTE: These days, many items have electronic components; we are not able to recycle all of them. Please bring only the items listed here.
-Gently used clothing for children and adults, curtains (no hardware), bed and table linens, purses, backpacks, shoes, decorative pillows: Collected by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Family Services of Westchester; proceeds support youth mentoring programs.
-Clean used towels and blankets (no sheets), to be distributed to local animal shelters. We can also accept small animal carriers and beds.
-Books: Drop off books for donation or recycling at the permanent bins located behind Village Hall. Available at all times, not just on Take Back Day! All books are accepted, including hardcovers and paperbacks, workbooks and reference books.
-Pumpkins: Don’t trash them--transform them into soil-enriching compost! Bring them to the Food Scrap Drop-Off site behind Village Hall at any time or save yourself a trip by including them with your donations on Take Back Day!
A huge THANK YOU! to members of the Bronxville Department of Public Works (DPW), who give up part of their Saturdays twice a year to make this event possible. Please show your respect to the staff by NOT bringing items that are not accepted on Take Back Day. Place closed boxes and securely tied bags in trunks or hatchbacks, or on back seats. Volunteers will be happy to assist with unloading and distributing.

Bronxville Beautification Council
Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The mission of the BBC is to enhance and maintain the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”

Bronxville Historical Conservancy
Inspired by the highly successful Bronxville Centennial Celebration in 1998, the Bronxville Historical Conservancy was founded to record and preserve Bronxville's history and life in the village today.
