Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Mary Marvin & Bob Underhill have been extraordinary servant leaders for the Village of Bronxville for decades and we are writing to urge you to re-elect them for Mayor and Trustee, respectively, on March 18th. On a volunteer basis, completely uncompensated, they have dedicated themselves to the stewardship of our Village’s finances, safety, public parks, roads, downtown and housing. To say they have been extraordinarily generous with their time, experience and skills is to say virtually nothing at all. We, as Bronxville residents, have been the beneficiaries of their combined professional experience in law, real estate and finance.
Mary and Bob have always placed Bronxville’s well-being above partisanship and politics, and value the collaborative relationships they’ve built with the other Trustees and Village Hall staff as well as members of the various boards that serve the community. Their team spirit and collegiality is evidenced by Mary Taylor Behrens and Helen Knapp’s recent letter of support.
Some of their proudest achievements include:
-Maintaining a AAA Moody’s bond rating (the highest available, and the best of any comparable community in Westchester holds) while holding the Village portion of your property tax bill to 17%
-Shepherding development of Villa BXV, Kensington Garage and the Parkway Road parking lot, providing much needed additional parking and housing, while beautifying our community and providing a multi-million dollar environmental clean-up of contaminated sites at no taxpayer expense
-Mitigating Bronxville’s perennial flooding issues, including at Bronxville School
-Establishing the Green Committee to effectively reduce waste, encourage reintroduction of native plants and protect our air, water and land
-Constructing a new and energy efficient DPW building
-Supporting one of the most lively and thriving downtown areas in Westchester with an abundance of shopping, dining and entertainment options for every age group
-Investing in our 150 year old infrastructure and roads to improve car safety, walkability and open public spaces such as Maltby Park and the Library’s new patio
How fortunate are we to be able to vote for Mary and Bob to do it all again for the next two years? We encourage you to show them our collective appreciation as well ensure the vibrancy and financial well-being of our beloved Bronxville. Vote for Mary and Bob in this CONTESTED election next Tuesday, March 18th, at Village Hall between 6 am and 9 pm. Every single vote counts!
Sincerely,
Jane Devereux

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
