Letter to the Mayor: Ideas on Keeping Movie Theater in Bronxville

Editor's note: Last week, Mayor Mary Marvin mentioned in her column that she was seeking help and ideas to keep the movie theater in Bronxville.  This letter is in response to that request.

Dear Mayor Marvin,

Jan. 27, 2021: To keep it a theater, I would look into having Sarah Lawrence and/or Concordia become prime users of the theater.

It could be modeled after either Jacob Burns Theater or Pelham Picture House or both. You could even include the Bronxville School for film study.

There was also a woman, Adele Green, who organized a very popular classic movie class on Saturday mornings with a guest speaker (a lot of the speakers from Sarah Lawrence). This was held in the large theater in Greenwich, Ct., another Bow tie theater, and it was packed.

My ultimate vision, probably too costly, would be to renovate the theater into an Art Deco look (having Steven from Underhills Crossing do the interior design and allow food and drink).

It would show mostly classic movies.

Who knows, TCM might want to make it it’s first stand-alone theater.

Thanks, Ron Ramsey
