Bronxville School Private School Transportation Program to be Modified

By Staff

March 26, 2025: The Bronxville School announced last week that it is modifying its private school transportation program.

The New York State Education Law requires that all "non-city districts" provide transportation up to 15 miles for students who are enrolled in non-public schools, such as religious or independent schools. This service must be provided for students in kindergarten-grade 8 who live more than two miles from the Bronxville School and for students in grades 9-12 who live more than three miles from the Bronxville School.

Each year, approximately 50 students in Bronxville participate in this program.

Over the years, Bronxville has provided this transportation mostly using bus service in a consortium with Eastchester, Pelham, and Tuckahoe. If feasible, the School also provided the service through public transportation, such as to Fordham Prep.

The cost of this program to the Bronxville School has increased by over 50% over the past four years to a projected $750,000 in 2025. As a result, the School is implementing a more cost-effective way to deliver this service.  In the 2025-26 year, the modified service will include:

-Use of public transportation such as Metro North Trains and Westchester County bus.
-Use of school shuttles to and from public transportation.
-Use of centrally located pickup points – leaving and returning from the School rather than from home.
