Update From Bronxville School and Police Department Regarding Threat to the School Phone Call

September 12, 2024

Dear Bronxville Families,

This morning, we eagerly welcomed back our students and employees to school with increased Bronxville Police presence. We also had our administrators and school psychologists stationed around the entrances during arrival just in case any student was having difficulty entering the building.  We are pleased to report that the students and employees are back into the routine of a typical school day.

If there are any students who you believe would benefit from speaking to an adult at school, please let your child’s teacher, guidance counselor, psychologist, assistant principal and/or principal know.  There are a number of adults at school that are here to support your child, whenever needed.

The Police Department is continuing to investigate the source of the threat received yesterday and has provided us with the following update:

-The Bronxville Police Department has confirmed that the threat communicated yesterday was not in any way associated with or connected to any current or former students.

Working closely with our partners in the Federal Bureau of Investigation we have determined that the threat originated from the country of Malaysia. Considering the difficulties conducting an international investigation and the lack of a reliable relationship with any law enforcement agency in Malaysia, it is unlikely that an arrest will occur as a result of this investigation.

There were threats to other schools on Long Island yesterday; one in particular was similar to our situation, in that it included a call to a national hotline regarding a bomb threat.

Out of an abundance of caution and to reassure everyone, we have scheduled a police officer to be stationed here during our High School Back to School Night this evening and we will continue with additional officers during school arrival tomorrow morning.

Thank you for your cooperation throughout this situation.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to either one of us if you have any concerns.

Rachel L. Kelly, Ph.D, Superintendent, The Bronxville School

Christopher Satriale, Chief of Police, Bronxville Police Department
