Sarah Lawrence College Launches Certificate Course in Book Publishing; Open House March 9

Mar. 1, 2017: Expanding on its hugely popular summer book publishing conference, Sarah Lawrence College will be teaming up with experts at top publishing houses to offer a six-week certificate program in publishing.
With job opportunities and outlets for writers that didn't exist five years ago, Patricia Dunn, director of the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, said publishing is a flourishing industry and a popular career choice for recent graduates and those looking for a second career.
Case in point: the popularity of the TV Land show Younger, which portrays a 40-something single mom posing as a 20-something who lands a job as the assistant to a demanding book editor.
"People often assume that going into publishing means that you want to be an author or a book editor, but there are many interesting career paths in the publishing world," said Dunn. "However, these positions are very competitive."
Renowned literary agent Cynthia Manson and former Random House editor Caitlin Alexander will teach the Certificate in Book Publishing program with guest lecturers from the publishing and literary world. Manson and Alexander have been helping to run the college's popular Publish & Promote Your Book Conference, now in its fourth year.
Alexander and Manson said that anyone aspiring to a specific career path or those not certain where their talents are best suited would benefit from the course, which will pair career guidance and networking opportunities with hands-on experience.
Applications are currently being accepted for the program, which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks starting June 6. Enrollment is limited. Tuition includes admission to the Publish & Promote Your Book Conference on June 24.
Interested candidates can learn more about the program at an open house on March 9 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Sarah Lawrence College, 45 Wrexham Avenue.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
