Letter to the Yonkers Postmaster by Mayor Mary C. Marvin

Mr. Robert R. Cobelli
Postmaster
70-81 Main Street
Yonkers, NY 10701-9998

July 7, 2011

Dear Mr. Cobelli:

I am writing out of total frustration and disgust at the condition and services of the Bronxville Post Office.   As I walked by today, some of the weeds were a foot high on the unmowed lawn.  The property is truly a blight on our community.

I am bombarded by residents daily with complaints about the appearance and long, long lines at the window.  As a personal example, last week when two clerks were working and one was handling passport applications for a family of five, I waited over one half hour to be served.

I urge you to increase staffing or give the passport duties over to another area post office.  We have had our turn and frankly could use a break from the long lines resulting from this service.

The Post Office has been a problem and frankly an unresponsive neighbor for my entire six-year tenure as Mayor.

As a community, I can say we have officially "had it" and will now do whatever we can to expose the problem in the hopes of creating some action for improvement.

Sincerely,

Mary C. Marvin,
Mayor
